I have an observation in my passport which says - the holder is not entitled to benefit from EC Provisions relating to employment and settlement - what does that mean?
Because the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are not full members of the European Union (formerly the European Community) people who derive their British citizenship through a connection with the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man do not have an automatic right to settle and work in EU countries, unless they have a connection with the United Kingdom through a parent or a grandparent or if they have been ordinarily resident in the UK for 5 years.
If you wish to live in an EU country you should first seek permission from the relevant Embassy in the UK.
Please note that if you have this observation in your passport it does not affect your rights in the UK.
