Information on our appliances - Crewing and where we use the appliance

Jersey Fire and Rescue Service use this appliance as their standard front line Fire Engine. It therefore is one of the first appliances to attend incidents. The appliance, also known as a Water Tender Ladder holds Water to extinguish a Fire, Ladders to help reach a Fire and various items of equipment, including:

Dennis Pump

The Dennis pump is used as a backup appliance if one of the main front line appliances goes off the run. It is used for day to day training and driver training.


Fire 23 Aerial Ladder Platform

Fires can start in very inaccessible places. If the fire is located at a height higher than that reached by a standard ladder then fighting it becomes more difficult. The aerial appliance allows firefighters to reach these areas and fight fires more effectively.

The appliance is capable of reaching 28 metres in height and 18 metres horizontally. It also has the capacity to work at areas below ground level, i.e. over bridges etc.
The cage not only allows firefighters to rescue casualties from a height, but also provides the option of dispersing large volumes of water over the fireground from a fixed monitor.

This vehicle is used to transport our Inshore Rescue Boat to various locations around our coast line. The AWD 4x4 facility allows this vehicle to be driven on soft/loose ground. The crewing involves 5 personnel, 2 of which remain with the vehicle after the Inshore Rescue Boat has launched.



Fire 8 Specials Vehicle

Special Fire 8



A specialist Appliance, normally used by a crew of 2 for any type of Special Service call. These might include Flooding, effecting an entry and so on.

Fire 20 Rescue Unit

The Rescue Unit (RU) mobilizes to any incident that requires Rescue Equipment. Primarily used for Road Traffic Collisions (RTC), it carries a variety of equipment, from Hydraulic Cutting equipment, Air bags, Lighting, etc.



Fire 8 Height Rescue Vehicle

Line Rescue


The Height Rescue vehicle is mobilized to all calls involving person's in precaurious positions. This includes Tower Cranes, around the coast line, incidents involving Trenchs, Sewers and so on. This vehicle is 'Multi tasking' as it works as a Salvage appliance aswell

This appliance attends all incidents that would require foam and foam making equipment. Crewed by 2 personnel, 1 driver and the OIC of the watch, it also attends aircraft incidents, whether on field or off.

The HIAB 085 is a general purpose appliance which is used to carry various items of euqipment to incidents. Its main priority is to transport the New Dimensions equipment, which is housed in pods, to the required address. It is manned and operated by 2 personnel.

Fire 28 Incident Command Vehicle

ICV - Incident Command Vehicle


The Incident Command Vehicle is designed to provide timely support to the officer in charge from the early stages of the incident. The vehicle carries equipment to erect a sheltered conference/briefing facility at the incident.

The vehicle crew are especially trained in the Command Support function and are responsible for using the various radio networks and other communications systems carried on the vehicle. They have the additional task of gathering as much information as possible relevant to the incident for the use of the Officer in Charge.

The ICV also provides a focus for resource management such as spare equipment and crewing level.

Water Tender 1968

Water Tender


Date in Service -7th November 1968. Sold 1981 {UK} - Jersey ’s Fire Service took delivery this morning of a new Fire Tender. It arrived on the Lune Fisher from Southampton after being driven from Merryweather’s works in Greenwich by Mr.C Babbs. The Tender which will take the place of the old appliance which was converted by the local service in the 50’s, cost in the region of £3,750 and will be used for small domestic fires and minor special incidents. It has a powerful 600 gallon per minute pump and can also carry 130 gallons of water. Merryweather’s the fire engine specialist’s have built the appliance on a long wheeled Land Rover Chassis and will normally be manned by 2 fireman, although 4 can by carried if necessary.

Landrover Emergency Tender. Date in Service 1968. Sold 1982. The first purpose ET in service with the States Fire Service. This appliance replaced the previous station built ET. Which was originally purchased in 1939 in preparation for World War 2
