The States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service Community Safety Strategy “Working Towards A Safer Community” Aim
It is the aim of this document to identify and implement a coordinated plan to help make Jersey a safer place in which to live, work and visit by clearly identifying the reasons for a Community Safety Strategy. A community safety strategy is about creating a culture that can identify the hazard and reduce the associated risk, before those hazards are realised. It is the core business of the States of Jersey Fire and Rescue Service (SJFRS) to minimise the social and economic effects of fire and other civil emergencies to the Island’s community. Accidents, injuries and damage are expensive, disruptive and destructive. Serious injuries not only impact on the individual, but their families, colleagues, business economy, the wider community and the emergency services involved. Because of the Service’s collective experience, knowledge and skills it is important that we act as a key ‘stake holder’ in other fields of community safety. Providing a lead in expertise, experience and resources where appropriate or requested.Vision StatementTo seek out, identify and remove danger from the people of the Island. Mission Statement Work in partnership with the Island’s community to provide effective emergency response while preparing and planing for identifiable hazards.
“The States of Jersey Fire & Rescue Service is committed to Community Safety and will use all its resources, knowledge and experience to identify and help reduce the hazards facing the population of Jersey. While working in partnership with the Island’s community to provide effective emergency response while preparing and planning for identifiable hazards”.
F. A. Greene. Brigade Manager

1. Fire Casualties 2. Building Fires 3. Deliberate Fires 4. Nuisance Calls 5. Emergency Special Services Foundation Stones; The strategy will be established on Key ‘Foundation Stones’.
Operational Performance; We will be effective in limiting the effects of emergencies by maintaining and learning new skills, while using the best techniques and equipment available.
Risk Assessment; We will guide our development and actions based on facts gained from the quality information we collect. We will develop plans, reduce risk, anticipate dangers and improve performance by assessing and evaluating the hazards present within the community.
Partnerships; We will accept the challenge and the responsibility that although ambitious, we can reduce, not just the risk from fire but other hazards impacting on the Community. We will create meaningful partnerships with emergency, social, commercial and voluntary services to help identify safety issues and established joint working to reduce all hazards.
Education; We will identify vulnerable individuals, groups or commercial businesses and target the education of those groups and individuals. Constantly developing and adapting our methods to ensure our message is relevant to every section of the community we serve.
