Crime Prevention
What do we do
Crime Prevention, Community Policing and liaison with young people through joint initiatives such as the Youth Action Team and the Prison? Me? No Way! programme are particularly important areas which States of Jersey Police concentrate on as we strive to enhance our partnership with the community.
Crime rates in Jersey are low compared to those in the UK, but the Force's aim is to make Jersey as safe a place to live as possible, for everybody in the Island.
The liaison between Police and young people is a key role in keeping youngsters on the right track in their formative years. We continue to make every effort to divert young people from offending and educate them in their rights and responsibilities as citizens. An increasingly important area of the department's work in the community involves officers talking to young people in schools, youth clubs and other organisations about the dangers of drugs.
Crime Reduction officers also carry out many visits to private and business premises advising on matters of security. The senior and junior Crime Prevention Panels continue to foster important links between the community and the police and give a valuable service, particularly in the areas of publicity on household burglary.
A large number of informative booklets are published by the department in relation to crime prevention and personal security etc, all of which are available on request.
