HM Prison La Moye
Mission Statement: HM Prison La Moye will provide a healthy, safe, secure and stimulating environment for all who live and work here. Prisoners will be encouraged to address their offending behaviour and to become involved in eduction and work related training, which will enable them to live a law-abiding and purposeful life in custody and after release.
Supportive relationships with families will be facilitated in order to maintain the positive links that will ensure a successful return to the community. In partnership with other agencies the Prison will provide effective ways to reduce crime and its resultant social and economic costs.
Our aim is to be a model of best practice and an example to other prisons.
The Prison is embarking on the second phase of its redevelopment which will provide more accommodation that meets today's standards. Alongside these physical changes we are working with other agencies to help address the educational and training needs of prisoners to enable them to become valuable members of Jersey society once they are released. We are also developing links with community agencies in the island to offer the services of prisoners as they approach the end of their sentence so that they are able to put something positive into Jersey. Between the 27th June and the 1st July 2005, HM Chief Inspector of Prisons, Anne Owers, and her team carried out an inspection of La Moye Prison. The report on the inspection can be downloaded by following this link.
