Visiting Information

Visits are pre-arranged appointments booked by the prisoner.  All visits must be booked before 09.00 two days in advance of the visit.

A maximum of 2 visitors over the age of 16 may visit a prisoner at any time.  However, an adult may be accompanied by more than one member of the prisoner’s immediate family who is under the age of 16.  In general terms, visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

All visitors will be required to show a piece of official photographic identification and to provide proof of their address (eg passport, driving licence, etc.)

Convicted prisoners are entitled to one visit of a minimum of 30 minutes each week.  Remand prisoners are entitled to one visit of 15 minutes each day (Monday to Saturday).

The visits area is non-smoking.

Visiting Times:

Monday to Saturday (Excluding Christmas Day and Good Friday)

1.30pm to 3.30pm – adult males and females

3.30pm to 4.00 pm – young adults (YOI)

4.10pm – 4.40pm – vulnerable prisoners (VPU).

These times relate to both convicted and remand prisoners.

Search Procedures

All visitors may be subject to a search.  This will not involved the removal of any clothing other than the visitor’s outer coat, jacket, headgear, gloves and footwear.

Where the visitor is under the age of 11, the search will be carried out by a female officer.  In any other case, the search will be carried out by an officer of the same sex as the visitor.  A search of a visitor who is under the age of 14 will be carried out in the presence of an accompanying adult.

A visitor who refuses to be searched will not be able to see the prisoner.

Camera surveillance operates in all areas of the prison.

Closed visits

For security and administrative reasons, a prisoner may be placed on closed visits, which means that a visit with them may take place in a special room which is designed to physically segregate the prisoner from the visitor.
