Five Vehicles Impounded At St Brelade Road Check

Some 405 vehicles passed through a St Brelade road check, during which five vehicles were impounded. The drivers of 12 vehicles were issued with defect notices, whilst two additional drivers were found to have incorrect registered keeper and driving licence details. A further seven drivers have to produce their driving documents to the Police.

Between 7:30am and 9:00am on Thursday 5 June 2008 officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards, (DVS), were joined by officers from the States of Jersey Police and the Honorary Police of St Brelade to conduct a road check at St Aubin, outside the Parish Hall.

Three of the five impounded vehicles, were scrapped directly from the check: A small pick up lorry with defective steering and bodywork, a four by four with defective brakes, bodywork and lighting, and a small car with defective bodywork and lighting, were all scrapped, whilst a small van with defective bodywork and fuel leaks, and a moped with defective brakes, exhaust and lighting, were impounded.

Twelve drivers were issued with defect notices requiring them to present their vehicle at DVS with defects, including bodywork, steering, tyres and lighting, rectified.

Two drivers have to produce their driving licence and insurance at the Police Station. It is suspected that one of those drivers does not hold a valid driving licence.

Two drivers have to notify both DVS of a change in their vehicle keeper details and their parish authority of a change in their driving licence details.

A further five drivers have to produce their driving licence and insurance at the Parish Hall.

Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir, commented: “This was a particularly productive road check with three vehicles going straight to the scrap yard because they were dangerous and unroadworthy.”
