Information and public services for the Island of Jersey

Revamped Government Website is launched

11 January 2006

The States of Jersey Website, www.gov.je has been given a new identity and a whole new look and feel, providing a single web address which gives concise information about States services.

In the past, States departments designed and produced their own sites, with individual logos, styles, content management systems and navigation From Monday 9 January 2006 this will change, and www.gov.je will bring together all these sites through just one address. This will mean improved communication of government decisions, easier navigation and clearer access to information.

“The job of pulling together well over 30 sites has been a challenge.” Bill Ogley, Chief Executive of the Council of Ministers said today, “The new site gives a clear message that the States of Jersey is a single organisation which is focused on putting the needs of its customers first. We are aiming for continual improvement in the new website so that increasing numbers of people, who want to use our public services, will be able to do so online. There is still a great deal of work to do in compiling the information and ensuring a consistent way of writing and presenting documents but I am confident that we have taken a valuable step forward in our aim to reconnect the public and the States of Jersey”.

Mr Ogley went on to explain another improvement in customer service: “During the next few months we will be opening a new customer services centre at Cyril Le Marquand House which will make it much easier for people to use any of the States services from one single centre. These two initiatives will cut out unnecessary bureaucracy and make it simpler for people to obtain information about all our services.”

Phase two of the website project, which will introduce additional interactive facilities and services, is already under way. In the meantime the public are invited to comment on whether they think the site has been helpful to them in learning about States services and how it can be improved in the future. They can do this by using the online email feedback form on the homepage of the site on www.gov.je.
