Islanders are being asked for their views on the future of Fort Regent as part of a public consultation which aims is to create a clear vision for Jersey’s largest sports and leisure centre.
The consultation is being carried out by the Fort Regent Steering Group, led by Deputy Eddie Noel. It focuses on three separate areas:
- The Lost Links – improving access to Fort Regent
- The Hidden Fort – creating more interior space for extra activities
- The Forgotten Gardens – redeveloping outside spaces for leisure and activities
The findings will be used to produce a business case at the end of 2014 which will seek funding from the 2016-2019 Medium Term Financial Plan for the regeneration of Fort Regent.
Assistant Treasury Minister Deputy Eddie Noel says “Fort Regent is close to many Islanders’ hearts and it is home to about 50 community and sporting activities. The overarching aim of this consultation and the Fort Regent Steering Group is to produce a comprehensive business case to seek funding in the Medium Term Financial Plan.
“We want Fort Regent to become a successful sporting, leisure, entertainment and cultural centre for Islanders and visitors. I hope people in Jersey will engage in this consultation process so real change and improvements can be made.”
The first stage of the consultation is focusing on improving access. Public comments can be submitted by emailing or posted on our Facebook page or Twitter feed.
Over the next few months, ongoing consultation will take place with community sports, arts, culture and heritage groups. The second consultation stage about creating more interior space for extra activities will begin in March.
