First phase of major road works

23 January 2015

On Tuesday 27 January, Transport and Technical Services (TTS) will start work on resurfacing La Rue de la Maitrerie and La Route de Maufant and then continuing westbound to Trinity Church.

This will be the first phase of a major road resurfacing project that will stretch from Trinity Church to Gorey and will be undertaken in three sections, finishing in March 2016.  There will be a pause in work between April and mid-July this year due to increased access demand and the Island Games.

This four-mile stretch of road has been identified by surveys as being a high priority for repair.  The surface material is very thin in places and has been dug up by utility companies many times which has impaired the road’s structural integrity. The work is being undertaken this year because there is sufficient budget for a project of this scale and it fits in with the utility companies’ work schedules.

Work will take place between Monday and Friday, starting at 7.30am under the operation of traffic lights, followed by full road closure from 9.15am to 6pm. Some work may be undertaken in the evenings to minimise the impact on bus services and diversion routes. The road will be open at all other times. Access to premises will be maintained at all times through liaison with the contractor.  Signposted diversion routes will be via main roads as much as possible.

Bus routes 3, 4, 13 and 23 will be affected by the work. Bus users are advised to consult the LibertyBus website for up to date details or call on 828555.

This first section of the project will continue through to early April. TTS and their contractor will try to keep disruption to a minimum. Information on the project can be found on the government website.
