Public sector pay announcment

24 April 2015

Representatives of the States Employment Board (SEB) met public sector unions on Thursday 23 April to outline its proposals for 2015 public sector pay.

At yesterday's pay negotiation meeting unions were given notice that a one-year settlement offering no cost of living increase was proposed for 2015 for all public sector workers (excluding nurses and midwives). Current basic rates and allowances for all employees would remain unchanged with effect 1 January 2015. All Nurses and Midwives will receive a consolidated increase in their basic rates of pay and attached allowances of 0.4% with effect 1 January 2015.

States Chief Executive John Richardson said that the board had emphasised the need for pay restraint this year and reiterated the financial challenges that faced all departments in order to deliver balanced budgets by 2019.

"We know that this is not easy or welcome news for employees but, with the challenges that we face, the SEB determined that a general increase in pay for 2015 cannot be justified and pay restraint will be key to minimising the need for redundancies across the States. It is also vital we continue to produce a more effective public service by carrying on the good work already started as part of the Public Sector Reform programme," said Mr Richardson.
