Parents asked to confirm secondary school places

28 January 2015

Jersey’s 10 and 11 year olds take their first step towards secondary school next week when parents are asked to confirm their place at one of the four States 11-16 schools.

Parents of children who are currently in Year 6 (the final year) at a States’ primary have been sent a form from the Education, Sport and Culture Department offering them a place in their catchment area secondary school – either Le Rocquier, Grainville, Haute Vallee or Les Quennevais. They are asked to respond as soon as possible (deadline is 6 February) to confirm if they:

  1. Accept the place offered
  2. Request a place in a different 11-16 school and give a reason for the request
  3. Decline the place offered because a place has been accepted in the fee paying sector

Parents should return the completed form directly to their catchment school.

If children are currently in a fee-paying primary school, parents will not routinely be offered a place in one of the 11-16 secondary schools. If they wish their child to go to Le Rocquier, Grainville, Haute Vallee or Les Quennevais, they should contact the ESC Department as soon as possible.

Also, to avoid duplication, parents will not be offered a place at a States secondary if they have accepted a place in a fee-paying secondary school.

Requests for out-of-catchment places are considered by the ESC department and parents will be informed of decisions around the beginning of March. If necessary, there is an appeals process. Appeal hearings will be held at the end of March.
