New Prison Officers recruited

10 new prison officers and one prison nurse officer have been recruited to work at the States of Jersey Prison Service (SoJPS).

On Friday they graduated, at a passing-out ceremony, in front of their family, friends, the Assistant Home Affairs Minister, Prison Governor and the Justice and Home Affairs Director General.

The officers were selected from over 70 applicants following a recruitment campaign earlier this year. The process involved a series of physical trials and psychometric tests and other assessments.     

All 11 officers have successfully undergone an intense eight-week training programme lead by Unit Managers John Fosse, Pete Gould and Nicola Coles. The course covered all aspects required by a modern prisoner officer, including listening and coping skills, how to deal with and understanding prisoners, physical restraint techniques and helping inmates integrate back into the community.     

The new prison officers are: Christian Brown, Byron Medland, Kerry Codling, Emma Crossley, Kamil Miaskiewicz, Elvis Drusca, Jonathon Forbes, Joshua Lamy-Coudrais, Ryan Shaw, Courtney McGlone and Eduardo Afonso.   

Prison Governor Nick Cameron said: “I would like to congratulate all the new prison officers on the successful completion of their training and warmly welcome them into the (SoJPS) team. I am also delighted that we have attracted officers from a range of different backgrounds, representing the diversity of our Island.”
