CAMHS service shortlisted for international award

23 September 2020

The Association for Psychological Therapies has shortlisted the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) as one of three finalists for an internationally recognised award for ‘Excellence in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy’ (DBT).

The CAMHS DBT service was set up in July 2019 by clinical nurse therapists Alison Pell and Becky Robertson and aims to support young Islanders in learning techniques to manage their emotions.

Clinical Nurse Specialist with CAMHS, Alison Pell said: “It’s an honour to be recognised for our work in DBT this year following the challenges presented by the pandemic. The awards demonstrate the enthusiam of our team in applying effective and innovative techniques within our practice.

“Lockdown meant we had to adjust our services online, but the effect has been a positive one, with group members more than doubling for inpatient and outpatient therapy. We hope our work inspires others and sets an example of what can be done to reach young people who need support.”

The DBT team have been invited to present their work at a ceremony on 24 September following which, winners will be announced.

The Association of Psychological Therapies offers training, resources and licensing to qualified professionals and has a membership of over 100,000 working professionals.
