Disposal of foul sewage

​This guidance has been prepared to elaborate on Policy LWM2 of the 2011 Island Plan and clarify how planning controls will be exercised on sewage.

What is the objective of this policy?

The overriding objective of Policy LWM2 is to reduce the risk of pollution to the Island’s water environment by effluent from the foul water systems of new developments, where this would give rise to: 

  • environmental
  • amenity
  • public health problems

What makes up the water environment?

The water environment includes:

  • surface waters eg:
    • streams
    • ponds
    • reservoirs
  • groundwater
  • coastal waters
