Part 7: stairs, ramps and barriers

​Approved Document 7​

The requirements of Approved Document 7 include:​ 

  • general guidance on the performance expected of materials and building work in order to comply with the requirements in Part 7 of the second schedule to the building bye-laws
  • stairs and ramps shall be so designed, constructed and installed as to be safe for people moving between different levels in or about the building
  • protective barriers to include stairs, ramps, floors, balconies and any roof which persons normally have access shall be guarded with barriers
  • vehicle barriers to provide protection for people in or about the building
