Animal Welfare

The Animal Welfare (Jersey) Law 2004 came into force on the 1 February 2007. The Animal Welfare (Amendment) (Jersey) Law 2006 was adopted by the States on the 1 November 2005.

On the 1 February 2007 a number of Orders came into force,they are:
  • Animal Welfare (Amendment of Schedule 1) (Jersey) Order 2007
  • Animal Welfare (Temporary Licencing Exemptions) (Jersey) Order 2007
  • Animal Welfare (Licence Fee) (Jersey) Order 2007 (Revoked 28/02/08)
  • Animal Welfare (Poisons) (Jersey) Order 2007

On the 28 February 2008 two Orders came into force, they are:

  • Animal Welfare (Licence Fee) (Jersey) Order 2008
  • Animal Welfare (Piosons) (Amendment) (Jersey) Order 2008

The Animal Welfare (Jersey) Law 2004 is designed to promote the welfare of animals and the prevention of suffering by animals in Jersey. In addition this Law will regulate the keeping and use of animals and allow the licensing of certain types of businesses involved in keeping and/or caring for animals.

For the Transportation of Poultry and other animal requirements, these are set out in the Disease Of Animals (Welfare in Transit) (Jersey) Order 2001 and EU Regulation 1/2005 which came into force on the 5 January 2007 and will affect anyone transporting live vertebrate animals in connection with an economic activity.
