Bluetongue Vaccination
The veterinary section is contacting all keepers on the current situation with bluetongue and recommends actions to prepare to protect cattle, goats and sheep by vaccination. For more information open

Vaccine is now available from local veterinary practices. Keepers are reminded that to export animals from Jersey this will not be possible unless vaccination is certified by the keepers private veterinary surgeon (PVS).
Long term, it is hoped the disease in Northern Europe can be eradicated but vaccination is likely to be the recommended control method for several years.
Any one who keeps sheep or goats is reminded that they must be registered as keepers and they should contact the RJA&HS to register.
Once the keeper has had his/her animals vaccinated a return must be completed to the department within 7 days.
Bluetongue vaccination returnThe States Veterinary Officer has written to local private veterinary practices informing them that 20 ml and 50 ml Bluetongue vaccine bottles are now available from Defra. Supplies of vaccine have been delivered to the Island and are available from local practices, keepers should contact their vet to place an order.
Your local vet will have to complete an order form, only the local veterinary practices can order vaccine form the department. This is the
form they will complete.
