New Footpath Guide to the South West Coast of Jersey Goes on Sale
Funding from the Tourism Development Fund has helped The States of Jersey Environment Division to produce a comprehensive, full colour guide to the network of nature conservation areas in the south west corner of Jersey , and the walking routes that run through and between them. Travelling in a clockwise direction from St Aubin, the route follows the dramatic 9 ½ mile coastal footpath to La Pulente, and the booklet covers its diverse range of habitats and history. From rocky headlands to sandy beaches, from commerce to quarrying, it is hoped that the booklet will inspire everyone to explore the Island ’s rich coastal heritage, whether they have all day, or just a few hours.
The guide also suggests a number of circular routes along the coastal paths length; and sites covered include Noirmont Site of Special Interest (S.S.I.), Portelet S.S.I. , Ouaisne S.S.I. , Le Grouin, Les Creux/Beauport, La Landes du Ouest S.S.I., and L’Oeilliere. Each section has information to help walkers to choose their route, including bus routes, distance, habitat types and refreshment stops.
As well as giving directions, subject matter covered includes the various habitats that will be encountered; a selection of the plants and animals that might be seen; habitat management; history; archaeology; geology; folklore; and the Jersey country code, as well as a fold out map showing the route.
It is planned that this booklet will be the first in a series of guides which will include the north coast.
