Environmental Policy from global to local

The Minister for Planning and Environment has strategic and co-ordinating responsibility for the environment. The Department, provides professional input to many areas of environmental management including guidance on the development and implementation of environmental policies, advice to States departments, local businesses and the general public on environmentally sensitive approaches to many issues.

Policy areas include:

  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of major development projects;
  • Contaminated land;
  • Facilitation and co-ordination of environmental monitoring;
  • Consensus building between States departments on complex environmental issues;
  • Advocacy of environmental best practice;
  • Provision of environmental advice and feedback to strategic policies;
  • Liaison with international partners and expertise to keep informed of best practice.
