Published in 2002 the States are committed to publishing a revised plan to
deal with the pressing issues affecting the Island, such as the future
direction of its economy, urban regeneration, the impact of our aging
population, the future of the Port and housing needs.
The plan will contain policies concerning what kinds of development will or
won't get planning permission, and in what kind of locations. It will also set
out the levels of necessary development for housing, retail and employment.
In accord with the objectives of the States Strategic Plan 2006-2011, there is a requirement to review the Island Plan 2002. This is a high priority for the Council of Ministers, as it will be a key tool in supporting the delivery of the Strategic Plan. Since the adoption of the new Island Plan in 2002, there have arisen a number of significant issues and changes which require particular aspects of the Plan to be reviewed and, if necessary, changed, to reflect new circumstances and objectives.
Frequently Asked Questions
Following an intensive information review period, including discussions with key stakeholders, a 'Green Paper' outlining the strategic options will be presented to the public for consultation in mid 2008. This will then inform the 'White Paper' - Draft Island plan, in early 2009 which will also be subject to public consultation and an idependent review from an external inspector. The States will then debate the revised plan towards the end of 2009.
