Island Plan Review - Frequency Asked Questions

Q: Why is the Plan being reviewed?

A: In accord with the objectives of the States Strategic Plan 2006-11 , there is a requirement to review the 2002 Island Plan. This is a high priority for the Council of Ministers, as it will be a key tool in supporting the delivery of the Strategic Plan.

Q: Where can I find information on the current Island plan?

A: The current (2002) Island Plan is available on line (2002 Island Plan) or from the reception area at the Planning & Environment South Hill Offices.

Q: How is the plan being reviewed?

A: A dedicated team based at Planning & Environment is managing the review, under the stewardship of a political steering group. Both in-house and external consultant resources are to be used following a detailed project plan. The first task is to write a 'Green Paper' setting out the strategic options which will, following public consultation, then inform the draft Island Plan.

Q: When will the new plan be available?

A: A draft plan is to be published in 2009 and following extensive public consultation and States debate, the new plan is expected to be adopted in 2010.

Q: What is being reviewed from the current plan?

A: This is an interim review of a 10 year plan and so many areas of the current plan are still very robust and relevant although the States have adopted a new strategic plan which require particular aspects of the Plan to be reviewed and, if necessary, changed, to reflect new circumstances and objectives. Housing and industry needs, the regeneration of St. Helier, the waterfront and transport are all areas under review.

Q: How can I make a comment or contribute to the review of the Island plan?

A: Widespread public consultation is central to the sucess of the Island plan review and a number of meetings and presentations will take place at key points of the review process, such as the publication of the Green paper - strategic options and the white paper - draft plan.  There will also be an opportunity to make representations on line using a web based public consultation system.
