Subject: Recommended changes to Orders in the States to reflect changes in tuition fees for UK Universities, local changes in the way support for students in further and higher education is administered and new arrangements to support students following programmes of distance learning.
Decision(s): The Minister accepted the recommended changes to Grants Orders and instructed Officers to liaise with Law Drafting Officers to prepare new orders to take effect from 1st September 2008.
Reason(s) for Decision: The Education (Jersey) Law 1999 empowers the Minister for Education Sport and Culture ‘by order’ to make provision for student grants. The above recommendations change the way in which financial support for students (through grants) is made and they alter the level of support available. It is necessary therefore to amend the published Orders
