Who is the service for?

Anyone interested in stopping smoking or helping someone else to stop can call. Even if you are thinking about it but do not feel quite ready to stop, you are welcome to come and talk through the options available so that when you are ready, you will feel better prepared to give up. You can call the service as often as you like. Even if you have tried before and have not been able to quit you can keep in contact with the service and have another go when you are ready.

How can the service help?

The Stop Smoking Advisor can meet up with you individually to give you support, advice and guidance on what might be the best way to quit for you. They will offer you friendly support and encouragement and will talk through practical ways to quit - this may include advice on how to beat cravings and information about stop smoking products.

If a group of you would like to quit together (for example, a group of friends or colleagues) they can also support you as a group.

The meetings can either be a stand-alone session for information and advice only or they can see you weekly for 6-8 weeks to support you through the quitting process. It all depends on what you feel would be most helpful to you.

When is it open?

The service is open from Monday – Friday, 8.30am until 4.30pm but there is a 24-hour answerphone. If you ring and leave your contact details, the Smoking Cessation Advisor will return your call during working hours. You could ring to make an appointment, to ask for information to be sent to you in the post or just to talk through any problems you may be having with quitting smoking.

What if I want to meet up but I work during the day or have difficulty getting into town?

The Stop Smoking Advisor can visit you at your workplace in your lunch hour or if you have difficulty getting into town, they can come to your home or to somewhere convenient near you.

What if I just want information but do not want to meet up?

That is fine. If you just want information, we can send you a variety of literature, which contains a wide range of tips to help you stop smoking.
