Four Commercial Vehicles Impounded In St Peter Road Check

Of the 723 vehicles that passed through a St Peter road check, four commercial vehicles were impounded, 24 drivers were issued with defect notices, and one driver has to produce his windscreen insurance disc at the St Peter parish hall.

Between 7:30AM and 9:00AM on Tuesday 24 June 2008, officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards, (DVS), and the Honorary Police of St Peter, conducted road check on L’Avenue de La Reine Elizabeth II, near to Jersey Bowl.

One large commercial vehicle, with a defective tyre, and one small commercial vehicle were impounded at the check for being overloaded. A second large commercial vehicle was impounded to its depot for repair to engine oil leaks, steering and broken lights, whilst a third large commercial vehicle was impounded to its depot for repairs to steering, tyre and lighting defects.

Twenty drivers were issued with defect notices requiring them to present their vehicle at DVS with defects rectified. Defects included bodywork, lighting and tyres. Two drivers have to notify DVS of a change in the vehicle keeper details and the drivers of two foreign registered vehicles will need to register their vehicle in Jersey.

One driver has to produce his windscreen insurance disc at the St Peter parish hall.

Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir said: “Generally, the standard of vehicles was good. However, for the second check in a row, tyre defects seemed prevalent. After a good spell of weather, the roads can get quite slippery when it rains. Those people driving with defective tyres run a much greater risk of losing control and crashing in such conditions.”
