Sun Shines On St Brelade Road Check

Some 392 vehicles passed through a St Brelade road check, and although two vehicles were impounded and 14 drivers were issued with defect notices the vast majority of those stopped appeared in a friendly and jovial mood, most likely encouraged by the strong autumn sunshine.

Between 7:30AM and 9:00AM on Friday 26 September 2008 officers from Driver and Vehicle Standards, (DVS), joined forces with the Honorary Police of St Brelade to conduct a road check at St Aubin, outside the parish hall.

One small commercial vehicle was impounded with severely rusted and holed bodywork and a scooter was impounded as the rider had no insurance.

Fourteen drivers were issued with defect notices requiring them to present their vehicle at DVS with defects, including bodywork, steering, tyres and lighting, rectified.

Due to displaying an out of date or incorrect windscreen insurance disc, four drivers have to produce their driving licence and insurance at the St. Brelade Police sub station. Two further drivers have to notify DVS of a change in their vehicle keeper details and one of them, their parish authority of a change in their driving licence details.

Three van drivers and two front seat passengers were warned for not wearing a seat belt.

Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir, commented: “This was a particularly good-natured road check with everyone being very co-operative and appreciative of the advice being given about their vehicles. There can’t be too many places in Europe where, at a road check, the local geese keep an eye on the proceedings.”
