Why are there not more recycling facilities in Jersey?

Being on a small Island presents some extra challenges for recycling.  Most recycling requires large scale facilities which would not be viable here so most of our materials need to be exported which significantly increases the cost and can reduce the environmental benefits.

The Transport and Technical Services Department are however committed to significantly increasing our current levels of recycling and new facilities will be available soon which will allow householders to recycle a wider range of materials as conveniently as possible.
