Contract Management and Drainage Infrastructure
The Contract Management and Drainage Infrastructure Section comprises a team of 37, and is responsible for overseeing construction on, and undertaking the maintenance of, the Island's sewerage network.
The Contract Management group administer the contracts for the construction of all capital funded sewer extension, refurbishment and reconstruction schemes. These schemes are constructed by contractors following competitive tendering procedures. In addition, this group has an identical role in construction projects undertaken for other sections of the Waste Management Directorate, the Transport and Technical Services Department and other States Departments. The team’s main responsibility is to ensure that the works undertaken by the Contractor is in compliance with the specification and is completed in accordance with the terms and conditions of the particular Contract.
The Drainage Infrastructure group undertake the maintenance and repair of the Islands 450 kilometre public foul and surface water sewerage network, together with the cleansing of road gullies and regular maintenance of the public watercourses.
The group is responsible for clearing blockages and cleaning sewers using a variety of methods including the use of vehicles fitted with high pressure jetting equipment and for the inspection of the sewer system for faults aided by a remote controlled compact vehicle housing a camera (CCTV).
In addition to the cleaning and inspection role, the group carrys out repair works on the sewer infrastructure, replacing damaged sections of pipeline, rebuilding defective manholes and replacing unserviceable manhole covers and gully gratings. The group also undertake the installation of minor sewer extensions and sewer connections to enable new building developments to be connected to the sewerage system.
