When can I take waste oil and liquids to Bellozanne?

The Bellozanne Oil Store is open Tuesdays & Thursdays only from 09.00 – 12.00 hrs. Charges for the disposal of oil apply.

How do I dispose of Asbestos Waste?

Asbestos waste must be separated into the correct categories, details of which can be obtained from the Health and Safety Inspectorate (Employment and Social Security Department). All such waste must be properly bagged and be accompanied by the correct documentation, and be delivered to the Asbestos Reception area at La Collette Reclamation Site on alternate Wednesdays (details of which can be obtained from CAC Environmental Limited, Tel 730000). Charges apply.

Where can you take mobile phones?

There are charity collection points at Jersey Telecom Retail Outlet and Jersey Post Office counters. The phones are then sent away for recycling.

Who collects printer toner cartidges for recycling?

The Jersey Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, Tel: 737297

Where can water filters be recycled?

Collection points for Brita water filter cartridges are located at Checkers - Red Houses and Safeway.

Waste cooking oil – what should I do with this?

Small domestic quantities (a few litres) may be sealed in original or similar containers and disposed of with domestic refuse or brought to the Recycling Centre at Bellozanne. For larger commercial quantities, a collection service is available. Contact Channel Island Biodiesel Products Ltd Tel:07797924116.

Glass – why should I wash out bottles and jars and remove the tops before disposal?

We currently use glass as a basic construction material at La Collette. After it is crushed, it is used in the lining process of the retaining wall of the reclamation site. This saves us using a stone aggregate for this job but the glass must be as clean as possible.

Garden Waste – why can’t I put this in with my normal rubbish?

Garden waste could be incinerated but we are working towards reducing levels of waste for incineration and recycling waste materials where we can. Green waste delivered to La Collette is composted and returned to local soils as a valuable nutrient source.

Broken crockery – what do I do with this?

Small quantities of broken crockery, plates, mugs etc., can be disposed of with glass in the Parish collections. Large items such as sinks must be delivered to La Collette.

What should I do with waste computers, TV’s and other electrical equipment?

To help reduce the quantities of waste we encourage anyone with working electrical equipment to try and find other recipients who would benefit for these such as charitable organisations. If disposal is your only option they should be delivered to the Bellozanne site.

Electrical goods which are mostly metal e.g. cookers and fridges should be delivered to the Bellozanne Scrapyard.

Car batteries – where do these go?

These should be delivered to the Bellozanne Scrapyard or to the Bellozanne.

Pallet Boards – can these be re-used?

Multi-trip pallet boards especially the blue ‘GKN’ and white ‘EURO’ boards technically belong to the ‘pallet pool’ companies and should be re-used or returned. GKN boards can be returned to Condor Logistics or Patch Distributors who offer a collection service. Other good quality boards should be delivered to Huelin Renouf Shipping on the Victoria Quay.

Damaged or non-recyclable boards delivered to La Collette and/or Bellozanne will incur a charge of £1 per pallet board / £40 per tonne (plus GST from 6th May 2008).  Alternatively, contact the following agents to discuss collection:
Farm Fuels Ltd: T: 482929
Mark McGuire: T: 07797 858527

Gas cylinders – what should I do with these?

Gas cylinders can contain explosive chemicals so it is essential that they are disposed of correctly. These should be handed directly to an operator at Bellozanne.

Oxy-Acetylene and Propane Gas cylinders (BOC Gas Cylinders) should be delivered to Norman Ltd, Five Oaks, St Saviour.

What about CFC’s and other refrigerant gases, how are they dealt with?

Waste fridges must be delivered to the Bellozanne scrap yard. Here they will have the gases in the circulation system removed for safe disposal. For larger units such as air conditioning equipment - please contact Air Conditioning (Jersey) Ltd.
