Motorbikes - Getting a Licence and Taking the Test
Before riding a motorcycle on the road:
1) You will need a valid Jersey provisional licence for the category you require, ie. Moped-P, Light Motorcycle-A1, Heavy Motorcycle-A. This must be obtained from your Parish Hall.
2) If you are applying for a moped or light motorcycle licence (or heavy motorcycle following a period of disqualification), your provisional licence will not be valid until you obtain a certificate to confirm that you have successfully completed Compulsory Basic Training (CBT).
3) If you are applying for a category A (Heavy Motorcycle), you must have held a FULL (pink) licence for a light motor-cycle (category A1), for at least 12 months. If your application is following a period of disqualification, you will require a CBT certificate before you are entitled to ride on the road as a learner.
Riding on the road
You must wear an approved crash helmet and should wear bright protective clothing, such as gloves, boots and a motor-cycle jacket.
Learner riders are not allowed to carry passengers.
Before your provisional licence expires you will have to attempt the driving test, which is in two parts, the theory test and the practical test.
The theory test
Information on the theory test is available here.
Booking the practical test
Bookings must be made at the Driver and Vehicle Standards Department or online at http://www.dvs.gov.je/. Phone bookings are not available.
You will be required to produce:
