Parking Disk use

What is a parking disk? A parking disk is described in the Law as follows:

‘It shall be composed of 2 pieces of pale yellow cardboard enclosing 3 red cardboard discs each pivoted about its centre on which shall be printed figures which shall be revealed through 3 apertures cut into one of the pieces of yellow cardboard. The left hand aperture shall reveal the hour, the centre aperture the tens of minutes, and the right hand aperture the minutes, of the time of arrival at the parking place.’

If I don’t have a parking disk can I write my arrival time on a piece of paper and use this instead? No, in a parking disk area you can only use a recognised parking disk as described above or you may also use a Paycard if you don’t have a parking disk. A hand written note is not acceptable and if you don’t use a parking disk or paycard you will be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice on street or an Excess Charge Notice in a car park.

Where can I buy a parking disk? Parking disks can be bought from either the Town Hall in St Helier, or the Car Park Administration Office in Sand Street. They cost £2.00.

I have been issued a blue parking disk with my Disabled Driver Badge, can I use this when parking? Yes this is fine, the parking disk can be either the yellow or blue type. Further information on Disabled Driver parking is given in the Disabled Driver Badge section.
