Request

How many ride and run crimes involving people using a taxi and running off at the end without paying have there been in Jersey over the past two years?

What action has being taken?

Response

The UK statutory offence of Making Off Without Payment has a Jersey equivalent in common law, known as Credit Fraud: any person who incurs any debt or liability or obtains credit by any false pretence or other fraud shall be guilty of an offence.

In the past two years, there has only been one recorded offence of persons evading payment of a taxi fare by leaving the cab without paying. Police were unable to identify or locate the suspect.
