Request

How many vehicles have been recorded stolen in the past five years in Jersey: 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and since 2015?

Response

The information requested is published in the police annual reports for each of the years requested.

These can be found below.

The 2015 annual report will be published by the Police Authority in the first quarter of 2016.

To ‘steal’ a vehicle, there has to be an intention to permanently deprive the owner of it, something difficult to do on an Island nine miles by five.

Most vehicles taken are done so temporarily and are recorded as ‘TADA motor vehicle’, (take and drive away); the UK equivalent offence of ‘Taking a Conveyance’.
