Request

Why and what is the huge mound being built on the headland at La Collette please?

There are so many rumours going around, I would like to know the true reason.

Response

Lined inert waste pits have been constructed in the headland area of La Collette since the reclamation site was completed in 1996.

These pits allow for the safe permanent deposition of inert waste containing pollutants to protect the environment by preventing the escape of these pollutants.

The Solid Waste section of Infrastructure, Housing and Environment have recently undertaken works to seal some of the pits with a waterproof sheet material, which is then covered with a layer of clean soil to protect it.

The mound on the headland was a stockpile of clean soil that has now been placed over the waterproof material.
