Request

I would like to have a breakdown of the number of Share Transfer properties purchased / sold by both local and non-local buyers for the periods 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, with the value of the shares purchased / sold.

Response

For the periods requested please find the total numbers of transactions and value of such transactions below.

YearNumber of transactions

Value of transactions

2018617£202m
2019640£213m
2020480£181m
2021473£203m
2022 (up to 30 September)340£147m

Value of transactions is rounded to the nearest million.

A new online form to submit Land Transaction Tax returns was created in April 2022. Reviewing the electronic data from these forms show that between April and September 2022, there were fewer then12 transactions in which the purchaser identified their address as outside Jersey. These transactions had a total value of £1.7m.

Any breakdown of share transfer properties prior to this period would require a manual review of all of the files held, which it is estimated would exceed the prescribed 12.5 hours to complete the request. Article 16 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has been applied.

Further information on this subject can be found in a previous Freedom of Information response as follows:
