Request
It has been stated in the JEP that the Hospital/Health department is looking to reduce waiting times for patients needing Psychiatric Care, by hiring another Consultant Psychiatrist, probably for 3.5 days each week. My request is to know if this is a permanent post, if it is to be filled by a local residentially qualified person or a newcomer to the Island, why it's only 3.5 days a week and who this person is (name)?
Response
The statement in the Jersey Evening Post article related specifically to waiting times for Autism and ADHD assessment and said that Health and Community Services (HCS) had increased capacity within these services by 3.5 days each week.
This has been achieved by the movement of a current Consultant Psychiatrist, who only works 3.5 days per week, into the Autism and ADHD service. Their previous work in another team will be covered on a temporary basis whilst permanent recruitment is underway for that service.
Any consultant psychiatry recruitment will require the applicant to be a qualified psychiatrist with the relevant experience and skills in the clinical area being advertised.
