C
Is it States of Jersey Police policy to confiscate e-scooters that are ridden on public roads and pavements?
Response
A
There were 20 incidents in 2021, 20 in 2022 and 8 in 2023 (up to 11 September).
B
No-one has been prosecuted in 2021, 2022 and 2023 for riding an e-scooter on public roads and pavements.
C
The States of Jersey Police continue to use the 4E (engage, explain, encourage, enforce) approach when dealing with people who use E-Scooters, anywhere except on private land.
However, the police do have the power if deemed proportionate to seize the scooter. This would be under Article 77(3)(b) of the Road Traffic Jersey Law where the person is then reported for the said offence and the e-scooter is presented as evidence. A link to this law can be found below.
