The Telecommunications (Jersey) Law 2002 is the current legislation that regulates electronic communications networks and services.

Telecommunications as a policy area is the responsibility of the Department for the Economy.
The Department for the Economy hold policy responsibility for Parts 1,2,3,4,5,9 and 10 of the Telecommunications (Jersey) Law 2002. The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority has functions and duties under Articles 3 and 5 of the Telecommunications (Jersey) Law 2002.
Policy responsibility for part 6 is held by Department for the Environment.
Policy responsibility for parts 7 and 8 is held by Government of Jersey Treasury department.
Some primary and secondary UK legislation has been extended to Jersey. The UK government has policy responsibility for UK primary and secondary legislation when extended to Jersey.
Provisions of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006 and Regulations made under the Wireless Telegraphy Act have been extended to Jersey. The UK’s communications regulator Ofcom has responsibility for the operation of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006 and Regulations made under that Act.
The UK’s Communications Act 2003 also provides for the extension of Ofcom’s numbering functions to Jersey.

Jersey’s telecoms sectoral regulator is the Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority.
Ofcom has responsibility for the allocation and management of numbering and spectrum in Jersey under Ofcom’s function under Communications Act 2003 and Wireless Telegraphy Act 2006.

There are no other competent authorities in charge of implementing the Telecommunications (Jersey) Law 2002 (nor other relevant legislation regulating telecommunications).

Article 23 - Information accessible to applicant by other means
(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it is reasonably available to the applicant, otherwise than under this Law, whether or not free of charge.
(2) A scheduled public authority that refuses an application for information on this ground must make reasonable efforts to inform the applicant where the applicant may obtain the information.
