Please could you release the number of hate crimes that were reported in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023 - breaking down the numbers per year.

Please can you also specify how many were related to racism and how many were related to sexuality in each of the years.

Response

Information is publicly available on www.gov.je in response to a previous Freedom of Information request relating to the number of hate crimes reported for the years 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. Article 23 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 has therefore partially been applied. Please see the following link:

Article 23 - Information accessible to applicant by other means

(1) Information is absolutely exempt information if it is reasonably available to the applicant, otherwise than under this Law, whether or not free of charge.

(2) A scheduled public authority that refuses an application for information on this ground must make reasonable efforts to inform the applicant where the applicant may obtain the information.​
