Please advise what are the levels of adult illiteracy in Jersey.

What are the levels of adult illiteracy in Jersey for those born outside of the Channel Islands or the UK?

What are the levels of adult illiteracy in Jersey for those where English is not their first language?

Please provide the statistics on the above from the last five years or if you do not have data for the last five years, the most recent statistics on this issue.

This information is not held by the Government of Jersey, Article 3 of the Freedom of Information (Jersey) Law 2011 applies. 

Statistics Jersey do not directly collect data on adult literacy levels. Information is collected on whether the parents of school children can read and write in English as part of the Children and Young People’s Survey (JCYPS). 

The JCYPS is collected every two years (although it is three years since the last one due to school industrial action).  A link to the most recent JCYPS report is below:

Article 3 - Meaning of “information held by a public authority”

For the purposes of this Law, information is held by a public authority if –

(a)     it is held by the authority, otherwise than on behalf of another person; or

(b)     it is held by another person on behalf of the authority.​
