Labour market statistics


In June 2023:

  • the total number of jobs in the economy was 65,010
  • the total number of jobs in the economy was 1,360 higher than in June 2022, representing an annual increase of 2.1%

Jobs by sector

In June 2023:

  • Five sectors saw notable annual increases in jobs. The largest increases were of 400 jobs in hotels, restaurants and bars (up 7%) and 380 jobs in private education, health and other services (up 4%). The hotels, restaurants and bars sector was adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic but in June 2023 the sector had a higher number of jobs than June 2019, for the first time.
  • One sector saw a notable annual decrease, wholesale and retail, down 130 jobs (down 2%).
  • the number of jobs in the public sector increased by 430 on an annual basis

Employment by place of birth and gender

In relative terms, employment levels in Jersey are high. 

In 2021, 84% of people of working age in Jersey were economically active (in work or looking for work).

The lowest rate was for Jersey-born residents (79%) and the highest rate for people born in Poland (93%). 

The economic activity rate for Jersey-born residents of working age was lower than the rates of those born in other jurisdictions. 

This is as a result of the number of Jersey-born people in full-time education.
