Parish in Bloom competition results

19 July 2010

St Saviour has won a gold award for ‘Best Parish’ at the annual Parish in Bloom competition. ‘Best Coastal Parish’ was won by Grouville.

This year, 8 parishes were judged in Jersey’s Parish in Bloom competition – 2 more than in previous years. The results were announced at an awards ceremony at St Brelade’s Parish Hall on Friday 16 July.

The judging took place over 4 days (Monday 12 – Thursday 15 July) by an independent judging panel made up of Britain in Bloom Judges Rae Beckwith and John Woodward. The panel followed strict judging criteria as set down by the Britain in Bloom Organising Committee and included elements such as floral design, permanent landscaping and local environmental quality.

This year's entrants were:

  • St Helier
  • St Saviour
  • St Brelade
  • St Ouen
  • St Martin
  • Grouville
  • St Clement
  • St Lawrence

St Martin, St Helier and St Brelade obtained Silver Gilt awards, with St Lawrence and St Ouen gaining Silver awards and St Clement obtaining a Bronze award. The other category judged was ‘Best Florally Decorated Parish Hall’.

St Helier and St Clement won Gold awards for their respective parish halls, with St Brelade and St Martin winning Silver Gilt and St Lawrence and St Ouen both gaining Silver.

Jersey can enter 2 parishes into the national finals of Britain in Bloom and, as a result of this competition, St Saviour and Grouville will be representing Jersey in 2011.
