Vehicles impounded during busy road check in St Mary

21 June 2010

1,160 vehicles passed through a  road check in St Mary on Thursday 17 June 2010 in which 2 vehicles were impounded, 22 drivers were issued with defect rectification notices, and 2 drivers were warned to attend a parish hall enquiry for not having a valid driving licence.

These 2 drivers had not exchanged their foreign licenses, despite being Jersey residents for 5 and 9 years.

A small commercial vehicle was impounded with defective bodywork and numerous other defects. Another small commercial vehicle was impounded for being overloaded while a motorcycle was found to have a defective tyre, 2 illegal exhaust silencers and defective front suspension fork seals.

3 drivers had incorrect information on their registration documents, 6 vehicles had defective bodywork and 9 vehicles had defective lights, including 1 tractor with no brake lights.

Inspector of Motor Traffic, Alan Muir commented, “We had an extremely busy road check in St Mary, exposing a variety of problems. Lights are easy to check, yet we saw several vehicles where the driver just hadn’t bothered to do any basic safety checks on their vehicle before driving it”.
