Last chance to have your say on health

12 July 2012

The public meetings are the third and fourth to be held on the ‘Caring for Each Other, Caring for Ourselves’ White Paper and there is just 1 week left for people to have their say before the consultation ends on Friday 20 July.

1 of the meetings is being held at lunchtime to give Islanders who live or work in St Helier the opportunity to hear more about the proposals, from 12pm to 1pm, followed by an evening meeting on the same day, between 7.30pm and 9pm.

Health and Social Services Minister, Deputy Anne Pryke, Chief Executive Officer of Health and Social Services, Julie Garbutt, and other representatives from the department will be at the meeting. There will be a brief presentation about the White Paper proposals and an opportunity to ask questions and discuss the options that have been identified.

The key areas of work explained in the White Paper, which covers a 10 year period, known as ‘priority service changes’ starting in 2013, are:

  • services for children
  • services to encourage healthy lifestyles
  • services for adults with mental health issues
  • services for older adults

The Minister for Health and Social Services, Deputy Anne Pryke, said "We urge all Islanders to take this final opportunity to have their say on this important White Paper in our last 2 public meetings. It is an ideal opportunity to hear more about our plans, and ask any questions you might have about the planned work, as we strive to give Islanders the very best health and social care for the future. We know that in the future Jersey will need to support a growing elderly population but at the same time, find a way to help people live long and independent lives. We also need a new hospital and want to improve the care we give people at every stage in their lives.

“You can also pick up a copy of the White Paper at the meeting, and speak to people who work in the department.

“We are pleased that a large number of focus groups with third sector organisations, and staff sessions have been held as part of the engagement process in this consultation, and I would like to thank everyone who has responded already.”

Copies of the White Paper are available from:

  • parish halls
  • the reception area in the Parade and Gloucester St entrances of the General Hospital
  • Morier House
  • Social Security
  • Jersey Library
  • ground floor area in Cyril Le Marquand House
  • Blue Islands lounge at Jersey Airport.
