Occupants escape house fire

05 August 2013

A large fire in the bedroom of a St Helier house forced a number of people to evacuate their properties and the immediate area on Saturday (3 July 2013).

Fire crews from Blue Watch arrived at the house following a call from one of the occupants. Firefighters entered the building and ensured all occupants had escaped.

A working smoke alarm undoubtedly contributed to the escape of those in the building by providing them with an alert to the fire developing above their heads. One member of the family had to be treated at the General Hospital for minor burns.

Firefighters fought the blaze which had rapidly escalated and had caused a roof window to explode, landing in the street just missing fire crews and members of the public.

Firefighters worked for two hours to control the fire and its spread to adjacent properties.
