External Relations head of service

19 January 2016

The Ministry of External Relations is to fill the existing vacancy for a Chief Officer that resulted from the transfer of functions within Jersey’s Government with a Head of Service post.

The External Relations team has seen a reduction in staff numbers through vacancy management. This, and other ongoing changes to improve efficiency, were made as part of the public sector restructuring programme. However, the Chief Officer post that was left vacant after the reorganisation that led to the creation of the Department for Community and Constitutional Affairs, will now be replaced by a head of service.

The post holder will work for the Minister for External Relations and also support other Ministers and departments whose responsibilities include external facing work. Recruitment to the post will take place shortly.

The External Relations Minister, Senator Sir Philip Bailhache, said “It is imperative for the future of Jersey’s economy that we continue to engage meaningfully and regularly with other governments. Our external relations provide the bedrock for new business and new opportunities, and we must continue to build on our existing relationships and foster new ones for the benefit of the Island. In order to achieve this, we need to ensure that the structure of the Ministry of External Relations is as effective and robust as it possibly can be.”
