DfI recruit more apprentices

05 June 2018

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is looking to recruit more apprentices who will be able to learn while they earn and attain the skills needed to develop a rewarding career.

DfI is offering apprenticeships in two areas of service, electrical engineering and gardening.

DfI is very committed to its apprenticeship scheme, which it relaunched in 2005. The apprenticeships on offer all run for four years.

Electrical technician apprentices will get a broad range of practical training in the core skills as well as the opportunity for day release study at Highlands, which will lead to recognised trade qualifications.

They will have the opportunity to work on some of the Island’s most critical processes and infrastructure. The high standards demanded by the Department together with the chance to work on multi-million pound plant (the Energy from Waste Plant and the sewage treatment works) makes these apprenticeships highly respected both within the public and private sectors.

Jersey’s parks and gardens are much admired by locals and tourists and DfI employs skilled and knowledgeable gardeners who have great pride in their work.

They are eager to pass on their know how to a trainee skilled gardener under a four-year apprenticeship which includes distance learning followed by Royal Horticultural Society tests that will lead to the required trade qualifications.

The apprentice will be learning skilled gardening techniques that are needed to achieve the very high ‘Green Flag’ international standard as well as facility management and forestry work.

Anyone interested in these posts can find out more and apply at www.gov.je/jobs.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 14 June 2018.

DfI also train apprentices in mechanical engineering and vehicle maintenance and hope to recruit to vacant posts in these trades when the current apprentices holding these posts graduate in 2019.
