Second phase of heightening sea wall starts

26 February 2018

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) will be continuing to heighten the sea wall along from the Gunsite on Monday 5 March, continuing on from the work started last year.

The project is helping combat the flooding that had occurred on several occasions when there had been storms and high spring tides in the area around the Gunsite and the bottom of Beaumont.

The second phase will see 120 metres of sea wall heighted by 0.3 metre from Le Perquage car park going east towards St Helier.

The wall construction will be a repeat of the height and shape that DfI constructed last year.

The wall was tested in the January storm and proved successful and greatly reduced wave overtopping.

The project will be undertaken in sections and noise reduction hoarding will be used.

The working area will limit the space available for promenade users.

Work will start east of the Le Perquage car park.

The project, lasting 13 weeks, is being undertaken at this time of the year to enable it to be completed by the summer months.
