Meet the Jersey Care Commission

14 May 2018

The Jersey Care Commission is holding its first event to meet representatives from care service providers, voluntary agencies and service users this week.

Around fifty organisations are due to attend the event and it is an opportunity for those who may be using, providing, or coming into contact with services that the Jersey Care Commission will be responsible for regulating, to find out more about:
• who the Commissioners are
• the role and function of the Jersey Care Commission
• how the Commission will approach regulation and
• the Commission’s key priorities for the next two years

Commissioners are also keen to find out from those attending their expectations of the Jersey Care Commission and how the Commission can most effectively engage in future with service users, service providers and the wider public.

One of the first pieces of work the Care Commission is carrying out is an independent inspection of Jersey’s Children’s Social Work Service. This was at the request of the Chief Minister following recommendations from the Jersey Care Inquiry. The Care Commission have appointed Ofsted to undertake this work and are due to report on the outcome of the inspection at the beginning of September.

Glenn Houston, Chair of the Jersey Care Commission, said: “This is a great opportunity for Commissioners to engage directly with representatives of service providers and with people who use services. The session will be participative, those attending will be invited to share their views on the benefits of independent regulation and quality improvement.”

The event is being held at Jersey Museum on Wednesday 16 May between 9:15am and 12:30pm.
