Jersey Design Awards 2019 launch

24 April 2019

The Jersey Architecture Commission Design Awards, which celebrate and promote the work of architects, designers and crafts people, will be launched this Friday 26 April.

The competition is run by the Jersey Architecture Commission (JAC), a group of experts who advise architects, designers, planners and the Planning Committee on architecture and design. The event is held every two years to recognise high quality designs submitted by architects, designers and developers.

The Assistant Minister for the Environment, Deputy Gregory Guida said: “These awards provide the opportunity to celebrate work undertaken in the last two years by architects and designers, with projects judged to national standards. We have seen some fantastic projects, large and small, which all bring a positive contribution to our built environment in urban and rural locations.”

Entries for this year’s awards can be submitted via a new online form which will allow applicants to describe their project and upload further information.  Applications are open to anyone who has delivered a project they think has contributed to sustaining and enhancing the character of Jersey’s built and landscape environment. Each category will have the judging criteria set out in the Jersey Design Awards Website.

The Association of Jersey Architects President, Colin Buesnel said:  “We are particularly looking forward to seeing entries for the new category of Best Small Scale Building Extension which aims to celebrate and promote the excellent designs produced for the smaller projects undertaken throughout the Island. We hope all of the Island’s architects and designers will support these awards and submit their designs to receive the recognition they deserve.”

The competition launch will take place at the Salvation Army Café, Minden Street, which won the Best Historic Building Award and Best Interior Award in 2017, between 18.00- 19.00 on Friday 26 April and will be free to the public to attend.
